Bangladesh: Rights of Street-Connected Children (panel discussion)

Bangladesh: Rights of Street-Connected Children (panel discussion)

Panel discussion on safeguarding children’s rights and the rights of other vulnerable minorities during this period of change in Bangladesh

Saturday 7th September 2024

11.30am – 1pm (GMT)

Hason Raja Centre, 117 Vallance Road, Whitechapel, London E1 5BW

Hybrid event: an in-person and online event

The recent protests in Bangladesh and the response of the authorities has resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of students and many others including children. Street connected children are especially vulnerable because curfews make it even more difficult to survive on the streets and there is a huge risk of being caught in the middle of street confrontations. During our programme we will discuss the risks faced by children and what the new government in Bangladesh should do to ensure their future safety and security. We will be joined online by the Executive Director of LEEDO, people involved in the protests and young people who took to the streets to restore order on the busy roads of Dhaka. We hope to be joined online by children affected by the turmoil on the streets. We will discuss how Friends of Street Children Bangladesh responded to the situation and the approach of the British Government in these circumstances.
