Friends of Street Children Bangladesh are alarmed about the current situation in Bangladesh. There are currently curfews and the internet is closed. Communication with LEEDO in Dhaka is not possible. We know from the time of the COVID curfews that curfews make it especially difficult for children and families surviving on the streets to get any food or shelter. Violence and bloodshed on the streets are a huge threat to the children and families that LEEDO support. We join with the UN who have said that the attacks on student protesters are particularly shocking and unacceptable and with the EU in calling for a quick resolution of the present situation and the avoidance of further violence and bloodshed.
We call on the new British government and the British High Commission in Dhaka to express their concern for the children and families on the street and to call on the authorities in Bangladesh to take measures to ensure their protection and safety.
