The Friends of Street Children Bangladesh hosted a screening of ‘Mighty Afrin: in the Time of Floods’ at the Hason Raja Centre in East London on Saturday. The film chronicles the life of a young woman facing vulnerabilities and her journey towards stability and enduring friendship. Attendees were captivated by the stunning cinematography, particularly the portrayal of the monsoon season and river travel in South Asia. The film highlights the impacts of climate change on some of the most vulnerable children in the world.
Additionally, ‘The Street is Not a Home’ book was available for purchase, with prints of illustrations and images painted by the street children on sale.
Forhad, representing the Dhaka-based charity LEEDO, provided online updates to visitors, alongside speeches from Amy Neilson Smith and Miss Kent Natasha Sharmin, who recently visited the street children in Dhaka. A delightful surprise awaited attendees outside the Hason Raja Centre with a magically appearing rickshaw!
Huge thanks to the Trustees of Friends of Street Children Bangladesh and Angelos Rallis who gave permission for the film screening – and well done on a brilliant film!
