Eight children from the streets of Dhaka arrived in London on Monday 29th April to a special reception at Canary Wharf’s Level 39.
Celebrity cricketer Monty Panesar, S. M. Jakaria Huq from the Bangladesh High Commission, Howard Dawber of Canary Wharf Group, Jean Lambert Green MEP and the Chairs of Friends of Street Children Bangladesh and the partnering charity LEEDO spoke on the challenges in bringing eight street children to the UK to participate in an international tournament for the first time. The friends and supporters will be cheering the children on when they prepare to play 8 other countries from Democratic Republic of Congo, England, India, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Nepal, West Indies and Tanzania in the Street Child Cricket World Cup 2019 at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Tuesday 7th May.
Canary Wharf Group hosted the welcome reception with other sponsors and supporters including University of West England (Bristol), Youth Hotel Association, The Daneford Trust, Spitalfields Housing Association, City Lord, London College of Legal Studies (South), Bright Management and Shunno Band.
